What the Heck!
The other day I received an email from my daughter who is an author at my blog@blogger telling her that MY blog was thought to be a spammer blog. their little “robots” were doing their job? HUH??? Excuse me but do you think that they would contact the OWNER of the blog? OH NO! That would be too hard to do.
I have this notice on my blog where you create your posts:
This blog has been locked by Blogger’s spam-prevention robots. You will not be able to publish your posts.
Blogger’s spam-prevention robots have detected that your blog has characteristics of a spam blog. (What’s a spam blog?) Since you’re an actual person reading this, your blog is probably not a spam blog. Automated spam detection is inherently fuzzy, and we sincerely apologize for this false positive.
We received your unlock request on August 1, 2008. On behalf of the robots, we apologize for locking your non-spam blog. Please be patient while we take a look at your blog and verify that it is not spam.
Ok so this happened at 4:30 PM in the afternoon on the 31st of July and i acted immediately and they tell me they received my notice on the 1st of Aug? Are they kidding me??? They don’t even have the right date unless they are located in Tim-Buck-Two!
So now I am waiting not so patiently for them to figure out how to unlock my blog. I went to their so called help blogger and see that there are many more that this has happened to. Hey I am all for ridding spammers but is my blog a spam? I don’t think so. I prefer blogger because I am used to it and I don’t want to redo my blog. But WordPress makes it so easy to import your blog. HA HA!
So maybe if I can con my daughter into fixing this one up and making it all pretty again and putting all my links and pics back on the sides then I just might stay here. We shall see how long it takes for blogger to have their little mechanical robots undo their stupidity.

Image Transfer of Sarah

Having fun with my canvas boards. I was at Dick Blicks a couple of weeks ago and bought a bunch of 6×6 canvas panels. It is a much larger size for me to play with so what the heck. Still playing with my Portfolio oil pastels I made this one of Sarah. I transferred the image onto the canvas panel using Dick Blick brand gel medium and it worked perfectly!!! The image is a laser print not ink jet.
I often wondered why people like to do transfers? What is the purpose of this technique? WELL!! Let me tell you once you do this you will never go back! LOL!!! The image becomes embedded into the canvas. No messy glues or tape to play around with. It takes a little practice but once you get the hang of it you are hooked! If you have not tried it yet you have to!
Here are some tips that I learned along the way…make sure that your background that you are applying your image to is not too dark. The transfer becomes very transparent and you can see through it. As in this one you can see the music paper in the lighter areas of the image. I like the way it looks.
I like to let my image dry first before I take the paper off. I can almost guarantee that it will work perfectly everytime for me. Sometimes if you rub too hard you will take that delicate image off your surface. Been there done that!
It really is up to the artist and what they want for thier piece of art work.
I have read in many places about this technique that you learn how much or how little to put on. This is true…it was explained to me that it is like spreading mayo or mustard on your sandwich. You do not want globs of the gel medium or dry spots but an even coat. (Who wants globs or dry spots on their sandwich??) Make sense? Just use that indisposable tool that you have your trusty finger and slide that gel medium evenly all over the front of your image, slap it down where you want it (image and gel medium face down) and the next thing that is VERY important is to burnish that image. I have an old brayer that I use. Do this until you know that the image has come in contact with your surface, and its ok if the gel medium oozes out. You want that. It is smoothing out the gel medium so you don’t have any lumps underneath.
So now I wait for it to dry. I usually am at my desk with my computer and go play a game of solitary until it is dried. Using that indispensable tool your finger gently and lightly start rubbing the paper off using water. It may take some time to get all the white fuzzy stuff off but it is worth it! Let it dry a bit and rub some more. Once I have it all off I will coat my image with some neutral shoe polish to protect my image from the paints and inks that I will use in my collage. If I get messy and I do it will come right off with out ruining anything.
I was very frustrated with the right side of the panel and could not make it work…so there are about 6 layers of paint, gesso, paper, more paint and finally the oil pastels. I want to add some more to this around the bird house that is not so visible here. Maybe later next week. I like to start something and then finish it off later. The muse works that way some times.
Sarah is another image that will soon be available at Paper Imagery Designs. Watch this site for the grand opening special! You won’t want to miss it. The owners of the new company are very excited about their new collage sheets. Collage sheets designed by an artist for artists!

Art Journal
For a long time I said I would start an art journal. One day last week I ended up on YouTube and stumbled across this video and said wow! I loved what Samantha did. So I watched a couple more and then I stumbled across Millande~another talented artist and she has just started a new yahoo group. She has wonderful downloads at her blog for those of us that cannot draw. THEN I came across Suzi Blu Tube! She has over 60 videos and they will make you laugh, cry and want to start that art journal you have been putting off.
Each one of these artists listed are truly remarkable in their own way. Each having their own style. But what do they all have in common? They made me do it! They made me go out and buy a journal and start one. They sparked my muse with a firecracker!!!! She deserved that! My muse told me she was tired of doing the same thing over and over and wanted to do something different. She has been telling me that for a long time now and I would not listen to her. Well I finally have and we both feel so much better!
Now I did some of the exercises that they posted and then I did one of my own. I used some of Millande’s art dolls for one page. Most of my pages are not completed yet but I just wanted to share with you what I have been up to for the last week or so.
So here I go showing all my friends my private art journal…something that is part of me and done for me. Experimenting with different art tools. Most of them I had and were just collecting dust. Some are new and a better quality.
There are many other art journal related yahoo groups that are also inspiring that I have just recently joined.

Using magazine images
Another exercise from Millande. It still needs something but I had fun painting over the image using gesso and acrylic paints. Most of the paints I used for this were Golden. I like them because I can create more texture with them.

Inspired by Suzi Blu Tube
Now this was inspired by Suzi Blu. I used my Portfolio crayons to create the background and then added more paints, gesso, more portfolio crayons and images from magazines that I have been hoarding for a long time. There is nothing like the present to get them out and USE THEM! What the heck! What am I saving these for? Maybe it was for this sort of thing I don’t know. I think there is lots of depth in these. I will add words and feeling to it as I go along.
